Keir Starmer Says His Government Must Be Prepared To Be Unpopular

Keir Starmer Vows to Make Tough Decisions as He Says His Government Must Be ‘Prepared to Be Unpopular’

Labour leader sets out his vision for the country in major speech

Starmer says he wants to create a ‘better future for Britain’

Keir Starmer has said his government must be “prepared to be unpopular” as he sets out his vision for the country in a major speech. The Labour leader said he wants to create a “better future for Britain” and that means making tough decisions.

Starmer said he is “not afraid to take on the vested interests” and that he will “always put the national interest first”. He said he wants to build a “fairer, more prosperous and more just” society.

Starmer’s speech comes at a time when the Labour Party is trailing the Conservatives in the opinion polls. However, Starmer is hoping to use his speech to set out his stall for the next election and to show that he is a credible alternative to Boris Johnson.

In his speech, Starmer set out a number of policies that he would implement if he becomes Prime Minister. These include:

  • Investing in public services
  • Creating a fairer tax system
  • Tackling the climate crisis
  • Reforming the education system
  • Improving the NHS

Starmer said that these policies are “necessary” to create a better future for Britain. He said that he is “confident” that the Labour Party can win the next election and that he is “ready to lead the country”.

The speech was well-received by Labour MPs and members. However, some commentators have said that Starmer needs to be more specific about his policies and that he needs to offer a more radical vision for the country.

It remains to be seen whether Starmer can translate his vision for the country into reality. However, his speech has shown that he is a serious contender for the next election and that he is determined to make a difference.
